After the TikTok ban fiasco in the US, the president decided not to ban social media platforms. However, there are still strings attached to this. The condition is that the platform must find an American buyer in the next 75 days. If it fails to do so, the platform will most probably get banned this time.

Tiktok Looking To Find A Buyer

Following the US Supreme Court’s upholding of TikTok’s ban in January 2025, the platform experienced a brief outage. The deadline for TikTok to find a US buyer was first extended by Trump to April 4. He is signing a fresh executive order that will keep TikTok online in the US for at least another 75 days. However, this is because he stated that a deal needs more time to come together.

Who might purchase TikTok if it were to be sold? Bobby Kotick, the founder of Activision, was reportedly putting together an investment group to purchase the platform. A possible agreement that would provide the US government a 50% ownership stake in TikTok has also been considered by the AI startup Perplexity. Meanwhile, it appears that Microsoft is considering making another attempt to acquire it.

More recently, it was revealed that Amazon and Walmart were considering placing bids for the platform or forming groups of businesses to do so. According to ABC News, one of the main reasons Walmart decided to enter the market after Amazon was to gain access to TikTok’s enormous user base, which Walmart could potentially sell to.
