Apple 5G Modem To Replace Qualcomm
According to an article on X by a TF International Securities analyst, Apple intends to use its 5G modem on only two iPhone models. The iPhone SE 4 and the “ultra-slim” iPhone 17 are expected to appear in 2025.
According to the analyst, Apple plans to launch the iPhone SE 4 in Q1 2025. While the iPhone 17 Slim, could arrive in Q3 2025. The expert stated that the next iPhone models will not employ Qualcomm’s 5G modem. Kuo said that with this step, Apple intends to gradually phase out outsourced modems, with the business ready to migrate to in-house technology.
Apple extended its contract with Qualcomm until 2026, while the development of its own modem was apparently delayed. The iPhone SE 4 and iPhone 17 Slim are rumoured to feature the iPhone maker’s own 5G modem. However, it is unclear whether the rest of the iPhone 17 series will do the same.
Jeff Pu, an analyst at Haitong International Securities, stated that the next iPhone 16 models would still feature Qualcomm 5G modems. However, only the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max may include the newest Snapdragon X75 modem. The regular variations are rumoured to include still the X70 modem, which powers cellular capabilities throughout the iPhone 15 family.
