BTS fans are in an uproar after an incident at the group’s recent “2024 FESTA” event in Seoul. The event, held on June 13th, saw Jin hugging 1,000 fans in person to celebrate his discharge from the military. However, the heartwarming gesture was marred by allegations of sexual harassment.
According to reports, some fans reportedly attempted to kiss Jin during the hugs. A complaint was filed on June 14th at the Songpa Police Station, accusing these fans of violating South Korea’s Sexual Violence Punishment Act. The police are currently reviewing the complaint to determine if a formal investigation will be launched.
The accuser, identified as Mr A, expressed outrage over the incident in an online post. “I understand Jin wanted to connect with fans after his service,” Mr. A stated, “but attempting to kiss him is clearly sexual harassment. I filed a complaint for indecent assault in a crowded place.”
The incident has sparked anger and disappointment among fans worldwide. Many have voiced their support for Mr A’s complaint, with comments like “This is unacceptable behaviour” and “Who would take advantage of such a kind gesture?”
Jin’s event initially intended as a way to reconnect with fans, has been overshadowed by this controversy. It serves as a reminder of the importance of respecting boundaries, even during meet-and-greet opportunities.
