AI Gemini Nano
This year, in January, Google soft introduced experimental gen AI capabilities. This included the ability to design a custom theme, smart tab grouping, and more. This comes with the Chrome (M121) update for Macs and Windows PCs, but availability is still limited to the United States.
During the I/O 2024 event, the firm stated that it has worked on WebGPU and WebAssembly in Chrome to ensure that next-generation AI features run seamlessly on PCs with the bare minimum of hardware configurations. Unlike Microsoft’s Copilot, which requires cloud access to conduct advanced AI-based tasks, Chrome’s lightweight Gemini Nano model can work on-device without the internet.
Aside from the ‘Help me write’ functionality, Chrome with Gemini Nano will enable real-time language translation. This also includes closed captioning, and audio transcription. More features will be added in the future to improve the Chrome user experience.
Google also intends to provide a next-generation AI-powered debugger to Chrome DevTools. It can find problems and provide more efficient codes along with instructions for running the software programme.
