No stranger to box office success, the Demon Slayer franchise holds the record for the highest-grossing film in Japan with “Demon Slayer: Mugen Train”, earning over ¥40.4 billion domestically and surpassing $500 million worldwide.
While not reaching the heights of “Mugen Train”, Demon Slayer Season 4’s theatrical release, combining the Season 3 finale and Season 4 opener, still achieved an impressive feat. After launching on February 2nd, the feature film surpassed ¥1 billion in ticket sales within its first week.
This achievement is particularly remarkable considering the limited theatrical release targeted at dedicated fans eager to experience the content on the big screen before its streaming debut. While “Mugen Train” received a full cinematic rollout, “Hashira Training” catered to those specifically seeking an early theatrical viewing.
Currently, the film sits at the second position on the Japanese box office chart, trailing behind “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM”, which is setting its records as the highest-grossing film in the Gundam franchise. Another ongoing anime series, “Spy x Family Code: White”, also features in the top ten, holding steady at the sixth place since its December release. This sustained performance bodes well for its international release scheduled for April 19th, 2024.
Furthermore, “Hashira Training” is expanding its screening availability in Japan, and fans in the UK and North America can catch the film in theatres starting February 23rd.
