The movie is a special event featuring the first episode of the upcoming “Hashira Training Arc” anime and the final episode of the previous “Swordsmith Village Arc.” It opened in IMAX and premium large-format theatres as well.
This is not the first time Demon Slayer has dominated the box office. A similar event featuring the first episode of the “Swordsmith Village Arc” earned $10.1 million in its opening weekend last year.
Earlier this month, “To the Hashira Training” debuted in Japan as part of a world tour and topped the box office there.
