The Monopoly Movie
Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley were recently hired as the writers for Lionsgate’s next Monopoly film. These were Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ authors and directors.
The screenplay for the movie based on Hasbro’s board game will be written by Daley and Goldenstein, it was announced today. Daley and Goldenstein recently wrote and directed their own original feature, Mayday, in addition to Honor Among Thieves. They also wrote for Spider-Man: Homecoming and The Flash.
Since rumors surfaced in 2007 that Ridley Scott had indicated interest in directing a Monopoly movie, the idea has been around for years. Scott hired Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander to write the script in 2011, but that version of the movie just didn’t seem to catch on. After that, Lionsgate and Hasbro collaborated on a different version in 2015 that was written by Andrew Niccol. In 2019, it was revealed that Tim Story, the director, and actor Kevin Hart will be involved.
