Supergirl is somewhat of a mess – James Gunn

In an interview with ScreenRant, Gunn affirmed that this is the Supergirl we will see in the upcoming Supergirl film, which will feature Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl.

Supergirl was intoxicated on a world illuminated by a crimson sun, as was disclosed in Superman. Beyond this, however, it is evident that Supergirl’s mental health problems—which stem from a totally different childhood than her cousin’s—are the cause of her drinking.

Gunn went on, “I mean, as we find out, she’s had a totally different background from Superman.”

The Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic by Tom King and Bilquis Evely served as the inspiration for the DCU Supergirl film. According to Gunn, “in our story, we have Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by incredibly loving parents.”

“Kara was on Krypton. She was on a piece of Krypton that drifted away from the planet and she lived there for the first 14 years of her life in a horrible situation where she watched everyone around her die. So, she’s a much harsher and more f*cked up Supergirl than you’ve been used to thus far.”
