Kakao Entertainment has officially confirmed that a live-action drama adaptation of the popular webcomic by writer Chugong and the late artist DUBU (REDICE Studio) is in development. The company’s media division is deeply involved in planning, development, and scriptwriting for the highly anticipated project.

The live-action adaptation was first hinted at during an October 2023 interview with D&C WEBTOON creative director Heaeun Kwak, published by the French news outlet L’Internaute. Kwak revealed that a Korean live-action adaptation of Solo Leveling was already in progress, sparking excitement among fans worldwide.

Based on a web novel of the same name, Solo Leveling follows the transformation of Jin-woo Sung. A weak hunter who gains extraordinary powers after a mysterious encounter. As he evolves into the strongest hunter, the story takes readers on an action-packed journey full of suspense, adventure, and growth.

The webcomic adaptation, which began in March 2018 and concluded in December 2021, became a global sensation. With stunning artwork and compelling storytelling, it captivated readers and spawned an anime series, games, and merchandise.

Anime Success

The anime adaptation of Solo Leveling has also been a massive hit. Season 1 debuted in Japan in January 2023, with Crunchyroll releasing an English dub shortly after. The second season, titled Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow-, premiered on January 4, 2025, and is streaming on Crunchyroll.
