“Kim Hieora admits to being a troublemaker in her school days, but she has never bullied anyone or participated in school violence,” the agency said.
The agency added that they will “actively refute these speculative reports and false suspicions by releasing detailed evidence.”
Kim was originally scheduled to record the upcoming episode of the variety show “SNL Korea 4” on September 6, but the recording was canceled after the school violence allegations surfaced.
Dispatch, a Korean news outlet, reported on September 6 that Kim had been involved in school violence in her younger years. The outlet published a handwritten letter from Kim in which she apologized for her past behavior but denied the allegations of bullying.
Dispatch has since released a statement saying that the content of the letter and the content of its report are “not significantly different.”
The school violence allegations against Kim have sparked a debate in South Korea about how to deal with historical bullying cases. Some people believe that Kim should be held accountable for her past actions, while others believe that she should be given a second chance.
Kim’s case is likely to continue to be a source of discussion in South Korea in the coming days and weeks.
