Pokemon is still one of the most known and marketable brands out there. A huge chunk of their revenue comes not just from games or shows, but from merchandise too. And there was one company that wanted a slice of that pie. However, this turned out not to be that smart of a move since the developers of Pocket Monsters had to pay “substantial” damages to the Pokemon company.

Pocket Monsters Remake And Pokemon Lawsuit
According to The South China Morning Post in 2022, Pocket Monster: Remake seems to be a reasonably successful game. It earned up to $42 million in a single year, according to The Pokémon Company.
The game’s app symbol was an apparently untouched Pikachu image from the Pokémon Yellow box. The other game branding included what looked to be Ash Ketchum, Pikachu, Tepig, and Oshawott, all of which were unaltered. The gameplay of Pocket Monster: Remake from Perezzdb on YouTube features Pokémon along with a plethora of other well-known characters.
In 2021, The Pokémon Company filed a lawsuit, which was perhaps inevitable. The Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court decided in favor of The Pokémon Company three years later, in September 2024, and granted the company an award of about $15 million. However, both businesses challenged the decision, which resulted in the settlement being announced this week.
According to Automaton, Guangzhou Maichi Network Technology Co., Ltd., the company behind Pocket Monster: Remake, also sent a public apologetic letter to The Pokémon Company, which was shared on all of the main social media networks. In it, the corporation acknowledges that it has stolen Pokémon characters, vows to never do so again, and states that Pocket Monster: Remake has been shut down.
