Snow White Remake At The Box Office

Comscore numbers Snow White’s domestic box office debut of $43 million is the second-highest of 2025 thus far. It is only surpassed by the MCU film Captain America: Brave New World. It is also enough to lead this week’s chart, but it is less than the domestic launch for the live-action Dumbo.

To put things in perspective, the domestic opening weekends of 2019’s The Lion King, 2017’s Beauty and the Beast, 2016’s The Jungle Book, and 2023’s The Little Mermaid all brought in over $100.

Snow White had a similarly sluggish start abroad, earning $44.3 million on its first weekend of release. Based on Comscore projections, that adds up to $87.3 million at the worldwide box office.

With an estimated production cost of more than $250 million, it currently has a difficult time breaking even. This is especially true when marketing expenses are taken into account.

But for Snow White, there might be hope for the future. Disney’s prequel to The Lion King remake, Mufasa: The Lion King, debuted with a meagre $35.4 million domestically in December but went on to gross nearly $717 million globally.
