Lee said that the current system of “returning after a short period of self-reflection” for drug offenders is inadequate and that he is looking for ways to strengthen the regulations. He also said he is open to working with the National Assembly to develop new measures.
The People Power Party’s Kim Young-sik has also called for a ban on drug offenders appearing on TV, arguing that it is a matter of public responsibility.
Meanwhile, the Incheon Police Agency has announced that it is investigating Doctor A on charges of violating the Narcotics Management Act. Doctor A is suspected of distributing drugs at a “membership room salon” in Gangnam, Seoul.
The police have also booked Lee Sun-kyun and G-Dragon on charges of marijuana, psychotropic drugs, and narcotics under the Narcotics Control Act. Mr. B, the manager of a Gangnam entertainment establishment where Lee Sun-Kyun was known to have visited, has been arrested on charges of psychotropic drugs and extorting 350 million won from Lee Sun-Kyun.
The police plan to conduct a reagent test to determine the type of drug that Lee Sun-kyun and G-Dragon took and the number of times they took it. They are also reviewing whether to ban them from leaving the country.
