Star Fox is a game with a sort of cult following. The series hasn’t seen any new entries in the last 7 years. And it also feels like Nintendo has given up on the series, for now. However, According to Dylan Cuthbert, Lead Programmer on the Original Starfox, the series may return one day.

“Star Fox Is Unique”

In an interview with VGC, Dylan listed multiple reasons why the game may return.

Dylan believes that games like Star Glider or Carrier Command, which were popular at the time in the UK, were the inspiration for the original. It originated from those, along with a little bit of the Star Wars Arcade game and Namco’s Starblade. He also stated, that even if they did not hit the mark with the last entries, they would keep on trying.

Dylan stated some reasons why the last couple of entries weren’t that great. He said, “I guess what made Star Fox what it was was the mix of all those elements. So while some of the more current games, like the Namco version, are all excellent, there’s always that one thing lacking, like the sort of UK old-school 3D shooting game part.”

Star Fox Zero’s creator PlatinumGames has stated that it is willing to convert the Wii U game to the Switch, as requested by character designer Takaya Imamura last year.

Cuthbert responded, “I believe it’s still a very creative title really, isn’t it? When asked if he was tired of talking about Star Fox after all these years. Star Fox still hasn’t really been matched by a game, so I believe that’s why it’s managed to endure and remain in people’s memories. It’s strange, yet the title has managed to hold onto its originality.
