In a statement, Starship said that it has been “taking firm legal action against malicious slander, false information, personal attacks, defamatory posts and hate comments” against IVE since the group’s debut in December 2021.
Sojang is a YouTube channel known for spreading unsubstantiated rumours about K-pop stars. The channel has over 1.6 million subscribers and has been accused of spreading false information about several different groups, including IVE.
Starship said that it has been taking legal measures against Sojang since last November, not only in Korea but also abroad, to obtain Sojang’s personal information from Google. The YouTube channel operator’s personal information is necessary to take legal action.
According to Starship, the agency was finally able to obtain information about Sojang’s admin from Google this month, following an order by the US District Court for the Northern District of California in May.
Starship added that around that time in May, Sojang claimed to have been hacked, suddenly deleted numerous videos on the channel and issued an apology.
However, Starship said that it does not believe that Sojang’s apology is genuine. The agency said that Sojang has a history of spreading false information about IVE and that the apology is likely an attempt to avoid legal action.
Starship said that it will continue to take legal action against Sojang to protect IVE’s members.
