After the song showcase Sunmi explained that she put her most Sunmi-like feelings into “Stranger.” She said, “To be honest, as it has been 17 years since my debut and 10 years as a solo artist, I have never thought, ‘What new side will I show?’ I just wanted to emphasize that, ‘Sunmi is this kind of character, you know?'”.
‘Stranger’ was released after a span of 1 year and 4 months since her previous single ‘TAIL’ in 2021.
Sunmi also revealed that she struggles to find new ways to express herself in her music. She said, “There is no obsession with newness on my part. Instead, if you look at my solo music over the past 10 years, you will feel my struggle, ‘I still can’t seem to look the same.’ However, if I performed under such obsession, it seemed like that obsession would be felt by the public.”
Despite her concerns, Sunmi is confident that her fans will enjoy “Stranger.” She said, “I worry about doing something new, but there is a side of Sunmi that the public likes, so I don’t try to deviate too much from that.”
