Resident Evil is one of the most popular gaming franchises of all time. The remakes and new entries alike are liked and praised by fans. However, the franchises are not limited to games and also release movies from time to time. First, there were the alright live-action movies, followed by the better CG ones. Anyways, it is said that the Resident Evil movie reboot is on the way and handled by no other than Barbarian 2022 director, Zach Cregger.

Resident Evil Movie Reboot
The Hollywood Reporter claims that Cregger’s Resident Evil will be “a revamp that will take the title to its horror roots and be more faithful to the initial games.” Compared to the earlier Resident Evil movies, that would be a pleasant change of pace. Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City failed miserably at the box office. It happened despite it attempting to combine the first two games into one movie.
All of the other Resident Evil films were distributed by Sony’s Screen Gems. However, since Cregger has some box office power, the rights to this one are up for grabs. While his second horror film, Weapons, is rumoured to have very good screen-test scores, Barbarian was a cult smash and received high praise from critics.
Only two of the four studios—Netflix and Warner Bros.—were specifically named in the study. In addition to releasing a number of animated Resident Evil movies, Netflix has already debuted a live-action series starring Lance Reddick. Warner Bros., however, might have the advantage because it acquired the rights to Weapons in a prior bidding war for Cregger’s services.
The first six Resident Evil movies were directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, who was recently hired to helm an adaptation of Sega’s House of the Dead. Earlier in January, a documentary about George Romero’s unfinished Resident Evil film also made its debut.
