According to an insider-cited story from The Verge, such a device is no longer being developed. This comes after a story that surfaced at the end of May. It indicated that preparations for an Xbox portable were shelved.

According to The Verge, Microsoft is still optimistic about producing “next-gen Xbox hardware”. However, maybe not in the sense that most people believe. “We’ll see multiple devices from PC makers like Asus that will also be considered next-gen Xbox consoles,” according to the article.

In a recent interview with the Xbox podcast, Spencer hinted at a deeper partnership between the PC and the console. “This is the tightest collaboration I’ve seen between the gaming organisation and the Windows team in my three decades at the company,” he stated. Spencer added that Windows PC is an open platform. He also thinks a PC may be viewed “as a game console” if it is handled correctly.

Sarah Bond, the head of Xbox, said in February 2024 that Microsoft was producing new Xbox hardware. Regardless of its final design, Bond claimed that the upcoming Xbox will provide the “largest technical leap you will have ever seen in a hardware generation.”
