The Legend of Zelda – Tears of the Kingdom is nearly here. The game will release on May 12, 2023 as told by Nintendo in Direct 2022. With the success of Breath of The Wild, fans are more hyped up than ever. We know that the game will act a soft sequel to the BoTW but other than that, Nintendo has not revealed much about the game. However, from the information from teasers and trailers we can speculate some things. Using those, we can speculate some mechanics or story elements we could be seeing in the game.

Trailer and Story

In the first trailer we can see Link and Zelda in a cavern. As they go inside deeper, a sort of dark energy follows them. Later they reach the source of darkness, Ganondorf, who instead of looking like a pig, is seen as mummified corpse with Gerudo attire. A hand made of light is holding the mummy’s chest. When Link removes the hand, the cave starts to crumble. Later, Hyrule temple can be seen flying in the air. An another trailer depicts scenes showcasing ancient, godly ruins.

The game is expected to be more linear than BoTW which can leave some players disappointed. Breath of The Wild was upheld for its open ended nature but it is not to say that ToTK will be worse experience than its prequel. The game is going to feature the legend of key characters such as Link, Zelda and GanonDorf etc. However, elements such as companions, villages, dungeons etc. seem to get more attention too.

Gameplay.

The gameplay of Tears of The Kingdom will be nearly identical to BoTW. However in 10 a minute gameplay trailer, we can some new abilities such as Recall, Fuse, Ascend etc. These new abilities will allow for more mechanics in platforming and combat. Such as Ascend allowing players to phase to ceilings and Recall reversing the time. Other changes include quality of life changes such as Recipe Catalog which allows players to save the recipes they have already created.

Platforms

As with every Nintendo game, Tears of the Kingdom is also going to be an exclusive title. While, Breath of the was originally releases for Wii U and later for Nintendo Switch, This title will only be available on Switch. Fans were expecting the release of Nintendo’s new console, Switch Pro by now. However, there are no signs that the console will release before Tears of The Kingdom.

Players can preload the game on their Switch. All they have to do Purchase and download the game from the Nintendo store. However, players wont be able to play the game until 12 May, The actual release date of the game.
