CEO Asa Bredin is looking towards partnerships in merchandise, education, and video streaming to diversify revenue streams. This diversification plan coincides with Warner Bros’ upcoming release of a Minecraft movie in April, as well as another Netflix series in development.
Bredin stated that he truly wanted fans to be a part of Minecraft, even if they did not play the game. “Within our portfolio of experiences, we want to be able to cater to a lot of people,” she said. Bredin also stated that sales from consumer products such as Minecraft clothes and claw machine toys have doubled over the last two years, demonstrating the franchise’s expanding reach.
Aside from Mojang, other video game firms are looking for new methods to make money because the market is no longer growing as quickly as it once did. Mojang intends to follow in the footsteps of Nintendo and Sony, who have produced films and television shows based on their popular games.
