Co-op FPS Redfall, was recently released. And it has not been pleasing players and critics alike. Arkane Austin developed the game and Bethesda Softworks published it. Both of the companies have a reputation in the industry. People know Arkane for creating amazing games such as Deathloop, Prey and the Dishonored series. However, Redfall did not meet the player’s expectations.
Why went wrong with Redfall?
The Game received very poor review scores on multiple review and forum sites. Gamespot gave the game 4/10. Metacritic gave the game a pathetic score 64. The game also sits on “Mostly Negative” Reviews on steam.
People are encountering problems like game breaking bugs and poor optimization on PC. Players on steam say that even a beefy setup cant run Redfall smoothly. Even those who have expensive setups consisting of Nvidia 2000 series cant run the game at 60 frames per second on 1080p resolution. The game requires a 4000 series card to even hit 60 fps. Which is totally unacceptable.
Even the gameplay couldn’t save the game. Redfall’s gameplay is commonly described as bland and clunky. The guns feel the same, Open world is not exciting to explore and Co-op shooter aspect is barely functional. The narrative couldn’t save the game either. The characters dont have much personality. This results in a story which isn’t engaging at all.
Subpar gameplay and graphics don’t justify Redfall’s $70 USD price tag.
The new standard of Industry
Nowadays, game developers release nearly every game in an unpolished, buggy state. Games like Star Wars: Jedi Survior and The Last of Us pt.1 remake are both great examples. Both of the games were horribly optimized for PCs. This is a recurring theme in AAA games.
Most next gen cost between $70 to $90 USD, Which is a hefty price to pay for a game. As indie games are generally a lot cheaper and provide a better experience, people show a lot more confidence when spending their money on them. This is why indie games are getting popular day by day.
The developers of Redfall have apologized to its players and are currently working on optimizing the game, in order to provide a better experience. But statements have not much excited the players as most of the player base has already left for better games.
