AI is everywhere. It is now even in smartphones. Even more absurd is that it is even in refrigerators. Unsurprisingly, it has made its way into gaming too. Both hardware and video game developers are pushing its use. It works in AI upscaling like Nvidia DLSS and AMD’s FSR. And now, with Nvidia’s new 5000 series of GPUs, 3/4 of the frames are being AI-generated. Now this makes us think, how is AI in gaming faring and what is its future? Let’s take a look.

AI in Gaming and its Scope

The all-important GPUs

We have hit an all-time peak in processing power. The performance curve over the years has been declining in terms of Graphical processing and processing in general. So, how do we make it even better? We deploy new algorithms. Nvidia pushed the AI and generative images with the RTX series. It quickly matured and now has its own anti-aliasing method called the DLSS. DLSS runs the game at a lower resolution but outputs it at a higher one. The RTX cards use fancy algorithms to simply, make fake, but convincing pixels.

This was so revolutionary even AMD had to follow suit. And now with their latest series, they are even generating whole frames.

Use in Games

In several fields, including gaming, artificial intelligence has advanced significantly. AI systems can process enormous amounts of data, identify patterns in the data, and use the data to inform their judgments. Gaming surroundings become more dynamic and responsive with this power. AI, for example, can improve NPCs by making them act intelligently, making the game more interesting.

This can be seen in the upcoming Arena Breakout with its F.A.C.U.L system. In the trailer, you can see the player issuing commands to the AI teammates through his voice. The teammates follow and carry out orders rather convincingly.

Multiplayer Gaming

Multi-player gaming is another domain where AI is becoming noticeable. Even gameplay is essential to retaining gamers in the craze for online gaming groups. AI can be used to analyze player statistics and then pair players with similar skill levels to play together. As a result, playing becomes more pleasurable since it fosters a feeling of community among participants.

Because AI-based moderation systems identify harmful conduct or cheating in real-time, they can stop unhealthy gaming. Players can engage and compete with each other in a more secure environment thanks to this.
