Gaming smartphones have become increasingly popular in recent years, catering to the growing demand for high-performance mobile gaming. It’s been a year since the release of the Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro. it’s the improved version of the original Asus RoG Phone 6. The device was released not that far from the Phone 7. Let’s take a look if the Asus RoG Phone 6 still stands its ground.

Display

The Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro boasts a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2448 x 1080 pixels and a 165Hz refresh rate. The RoG Phone 7 features the same display with one difference. The screen on the newer model is brighter than the Phone 6.

Performance

Under the hood, both devices are powered by Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line Snapdragon processors, renowned for their performance and efficiency. The Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro features the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, while the ROG Phone 7 raises the bar with the more advanced Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 chipset.

Even though the newer model has 2GB Less RAM than Asus RoG Phone 6 at 16 GB RAM, the successor is better performance-wise. The newer Gen 2 processor is better at utilizing the said RAM. On the internal storage, however, Both devices share the same 512 GB ROM.

Gaming Centric Features

Starting with the design, the Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro and ROG Phone 7 maintain signature gaming-centric aesthetics that are instantly recognizable. Both of them feature a cooling fan in the back to cool the internals directly. Much needed in a device like this.

When it comes to gaming-specific features, Asus has always gone the extra mile to deliver an unrivaled gaming experience. The ROG Phone 6 Pro introduced features like ultrasonic shoulder buttons, which provide additional input options for gamers. Both of the devices feature Asus’s own Operating System. Phone 6’s OS was based on Android 12 while Phone 7’s is based on Android 13.

Camera and Battery

In terms of the camera, both devices offer capable camera systems, but it’s important to note that gaming smartphones primarily focus on gaming performance rather than camera prowess. Both of them feature a 50 MegaPixel primary camera. the only difference can be seen at the Macro lens which is now 8MP instead of 5.

The ROG Phone 6 Pro boasts a sizable 6,000mAh battery, providing extended gaming sessions without the need for frequent charging. The ROG Phone 7 matches its predecessor with the same battery capacity.
