Activision And MW2 H2M
The Call of Duty community eagerly anticipated the H2M mod. After Activision failed to offer a remastered multiplayer mode with the release of 2020’s Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, a group of dedicated fans set out to create a mod for Modern Warfare Remastered. While the mod would run within Modern Warfare Remastered, the goal was to provide gamers with a remastered version of the original Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer.
The H2M team anticipated that Activision would not cancel the project because it still required gamers to have an officially licensed copy of Modern Warfare Remastered. However, just hours before the release, the studio sent a cease-and-desist order. As a response, the Call of Duty community has started a petition on change.org titled “Let H2M-Mod Live in Peace.” In less than 24 hours, nearly 6,500 players have signed the petition, demanding that Activision release the mod to the public.
The petition’s summary argues that Activision should follow in the footsteps of Rockstar Games, which acquired the popular Grand Theft Auto Online roleplay mod, FiveM, in 2023. It also states that Activision should “thank” the H2M team for helping to revive Modern Warfare 2 Remastered on Steam. However, the petition’s ultimate purpose is to persuade Activision to reverse its cease-and-desist order and allow H2M to distribute the mod for Modern Warfare Remastered.
