Most players logging in today received the message “failed to download supervised settings”. At first, some may have thought the problem was on their end. but later more and more players reported the problem.
Checking on Down Detector, the site claims the servers are actually down. This is weird considering the developers didn’t inform anyone about this. So this is not scheduled maintenance. It must be some other, unforeseen problem. There has recently been a significant increase in reports on this page’s Fortnite section.
Since 9 am EST, a lot of people have visited the website. At that point, information regarding the problems with the game started to flood in. Prior to that, everything went without any problems.
The official FortniteStatus Twitter account is a great resource for tracking down problems and potential fixes. They acknowledged their knowledge of the issue and their efforts to address it. As of the date of this writing, no solution had been presented.
