“Thanks for the gold, kind stranger” is a phrase that probably every Redditor has heard of. The Gold award when given to the user grants the user a week of Reddit Premium and other sweet stuff. However, Reddit is getting rid of the awards and the users are not happy about it. Not only this award in question but other ones too along with the coins system used to purchase some awards.

Why The Removal of Reddit Awards?
Users of Reddit are no longer able to buy coins as of Thursday. Reddit Coins bought before 12 September will become unavailable. After September 12th, awards will also be unavailable and paid Reddit Premium members will no longer receive Coins every month.
When asked why the Awards were getting removed, A Reddit member u/venkman01, responded with several reasons. One was the cluttering issue. according to the member, the number of awards really made the UI unappealing and posed a cluttering issue. Secondly, the sheer amount of awards made them nearly worthless. The awards were removed in order to get rid of these problems.
Devs haven’t provided any information on the specifics of its redesigned rewards system, including a target launch date. It’s safe to predict that it will likely be less complicated than the numerous badges that clog its existing system. Reddit’s retirement of currency and prizes, however, appears to be leaving the platform completely without a rewards system, unless you include upvoting, while it figures everything out.
Reddit’s reforms have not been well embraced by the public. Many Redditors, especially those who have already paid for a Reddit Premium subscription or filled up on coins, have voiced their complaints. This becomes even more controversial after the API fiasco that the platform faced. First Twitter and now Reddit, it seems like social media platforms are deteriorating day by day.
