Director Denis Villeneuve told Empire magazine that he wanted to create a realistic portrayal of the desert world of Arrakis, so he filmed in the deserts of Jordan and the United Arab Emirates. However, the harsh conditions of the desert took their toll on the actors and crew.
“We were all covered in sand,” said Villeneuve. “I still find sand in my shoes every morning. We are definitely sand traumatized.”
Production designer Patrice Vermette said that he even carried a bottle of sand with him to ensure that the sand dunes of Arrakis looked consistent.
“I wanted to make sure that every grain of sand was the same,” said Vermette. “I don’t feel like myself”
Dune 2 Release Date
The release date of Dune: Part 2 has been postponed from November 2023 to March 15, 2024, due to the Hollywood union strike. The film stars Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, and Josh Brolin.
